App stores will require a second human review for “health claim” listings
From December, wellness apps that mention diagnosis, dosage or recovery times must pass a specialist queue, not only the standard automated scan.
The change follows a year of complaints that calorie counters and sleep coaches were drifting into medical language. Platforms say the extra queue will be staffed by contractors with clinical training, not by the same reviewers who check games.
Developers warn of delays. A trade group asked for a grandfather clause for apps already in store. Platforms refused, saying old listings are exactly where the problem sits.
Privacy campaigners welcomed the move but said it does nothing about the data those apps already hold.
